When the reason you’re unable to work is due to a sports related injury, it could throw a ‘spanner in the works’ when it comes to company sick pay.
Whilst you will still be able to claim Statutory Sick Pay, it’s now common for an employers Terms & Conditions of Employment to state that the payment of company sick pay is “at the discretion of the company”. This means your employer has the right to decide, on a case-by-case basis, whether they will pay you sick pay or not, and if so, how much and for how long. Even in cases where a company does have a pay sick pay package, you could find additional clauses when it comes to sports or recreation.
