Peter Hickman Fastest Man on the Island

Peter Hickman Wins PokerStars Senior TT 2018

Smashing the outright lap record, Properly Protected Ambassador Peter Hickman becomes the fastest road racer in the world!

Since taking the title of Fastest Newcomer during his Isle of Man TT Debut in 2015, Peter Hickman has had an incredible journey to becoming the fastest road racer of all time.

With perfect conditions and an electric atmosphere, the 2018 PokerStars Senior TT race got underway at 12:45

With a great start, Peter was able to land in P2 by Glen Helen. Heading through Sulby speed trap registering a blistering 195.1mph on his first lap, which remained the fastest of the six-lap race. Starting to eat into Harrison’s lead, Hickman took 3 seconds out between Ballaugh and Bungalow. Setting a record between Bungalow and Cronk y Mona with a split of 2:13.472. Holding a 10 second lead over Dunlop, it started to look like a two horse race before anyone had passed the grandstand.

Lap two saw Hickman and Harrison continue to break away and as the duo battled it out across the Mountain Course Hickman managed to close the gap to just 1.419 behind Harrison. Heading into the pits, the Smiths Racing team had a great stop letting Peter rejoin in P2 with a 5.477 gap by Glen Helen on Lap 3.

Another sector record was set from Ramsey to Bungalow (3:11.200), but it was during his 4th lap that Hickman smashed the outright lap record with a 134.456 before heading into the pits. Losing a little time on Harrison the gap to P1 was 6.267 heading into Ballaugh for the 5th time.

The final lap saw an incredible battle between the top riders. Pulling out a full minute to third place rider Conner Cummins, It was all eyes on the sector times to see if Peter could bring the gap down. As he ran through Bungalow, he had taken the lead by .8 seconds before finally crossing the line and setting a new outright lap record of 135.452 (16:42.778) and taking the Pokerstars Senior TT win 2018 as well as the title of Fastest Road Racer in the world.

Peter Hickman “What a tough race. Wow. Massive credit to Dean Harrison. He was so fast on the first two sectors, so I kept losing time there, but I knew I could eat it back over the mountain and the later part of the course. I am so happy for everyone. I can’t thank the team and the sponsors enough. Smith’s BMW has given me a mega bike; she’s just sweet as a nut over that second half of the circuit. I knew it was all going to come down to that last lap and I had lost a little time due to backmarkers. But what an awesome end to such an emotional TT. Oh wow.”

Peter now heads back to the United Kingdom to prepare for Round 4 of the British Superbike Championship at Snetterton.
